Google already has a toe in the virtual reality (VR) pond, thanks to Cardboard, but it sounds like the company is about to take a big leap. Based on a series of tweets published by journalist Peter Rojas (@peterrojas), Google has aspirations of announcing and showcasing “Android VR” at this year’s Google I/O event, which is set to take place next week. Rojas only had a few bits to share, but he did say that the headset will apparently be less powerful than some alternatives out there, including HTC’s Vive headset, and the Oculus Rift.

What all that means is still a mystery right now, and it still remains to be seen how Google plans to target the headset — if it gets announced at all.
