Even companies like OnePlus have released non-compliant USB Type-C cables that did not work properly with other devices having a USB Type-C port. A non-compliant USB Type-C cable can potentially lead to serious issues, including completely destroying your smartphone or tablet, as a Google engineer Benson Leung found out. USB Type-C is soon going to become a commonplace in smartphones. Google already switched to the connector last year with the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and the Chromebook Pixel, and LG and HTC are following suit by using a USB Type-C connector on their flagship devices of 2016.
